Toyota RAV4 · reality check
Can I Afford a Toyota RAV4?
The default-recommend compact SUV of the 2020s — reliable, frugal, holds value, vaguely uncool in a way that ages well. Insurance and fuel are friendly; only the resale 'Toyota tax' stings.
Example values below. Edit anything — price, APR, insurance — to fit your situation.

'Toyota tax' is real
Used RAV4s hold their value so well that the spread between 3-year-old and new is small. The good news: yours will too.
Trim creep
LE to XLE to Adventure to TRD Off-Road to Limited spans roughly $10k. The middle trims are the practical sweet spot; Limited starts feeling like a Lexus quote.
Adventure/TRD trims insure higher
Bigger tires, AWD, body-on-frame styling cues — insurers notice. Quote the trim you actually want, not the base LE.
Reality check before you buy

Honest answers, no sales pitch.
RAV4 vs CR-V?
CR-V has the nicer interior and quieter ride; RAV4 wins on hybrid availability and resale. The CX-5 is more fun to drive than either. Test all three.Should I get the hybrid?
Yes if you can wait and don't tow heavy. 39 MPG combined makes the price premium pay back within 3 years for most commuters. Is the RAV4 Prime worth the premium?
If you can plug in at home, 42 miles of EV range covers most daily driving. The price premium is real; the fuel savings are too. Run your own numbers.
